As part of my wanderings around West Hollywood yesterday, I came upon this beautiful statue of an Angel, created as part of a fountain that fronts the entryway of the Isola Bella Townhome complex.
She’s called Reina de Los Angeles, or Queen of the Angels.
There’s something sad but kind in her face as she watches the water flow from the shell into the fountain at her base. Is it her compassion that brings water to what would otherwise be a desert climate?
According to the plate on the back of her pedestal, she was installed there in 1994. The water has started to create a green patina on parts of her body, and the constant flow of water has already begun to erode the fingers of the hand that supports the shell from which water overflows.
It’s really a very dramatic entryway piece, and I’ve most certainly never before seen its like.
