From Another Rooftop in Downtown Los Angeles

I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to go to another tall rooftop in downtown Los Angeles at sunset.

The result was this photograph.

Wonderfully Detailed Dome

Nestled in amongst the buildings of downtown Los Angeles is this beautiful dome.  The golden light of the setting sun gave extra color to the buildings around it, so it made it even more stunning than it might already have been in regular light.

I’ve done nothing to this picture other than crop it.

Eastern Columbia Building circa 1930

The Eastern Columbia Building, which was the headquarters of Columbia Outfitters and the Eastern Outfitting Company, was built in a shockingly short nine months from about February of 1930 until its opening in September of 1930.

It was designed by Claud Beelman and opened on September 1930.

This picture was taken as you can see, just before 8pm.  The lighting had just turned on, as sunset was fast approaching.

A Study In Contrasts

This, believe it or not, is the exact same building.  The pictures have not been doctored.  They appear as they were exactly when they were taken.

The only difference between the two pictures is that the first was taken at sunset on a clear day, and the second at sunset on a grey day.

It amazing and wonderful how the light of the time of day can affect how a picture will present itself.

Both aspects of the building are impressive.  There is the golden drama of the vibrant sunset picture, and the sedate strength of the picture taken on the grey day.

This is what keeps my camera in my hand.
